Season 3: Rimon Artists Salon Series 

Admission is $5 at the door.

If you are an arts enthusiast, you won’t want to miss the third season of this cutting-edge series of in teractive dialogues which delves into important and provocative issues facing our society and examines the critical role the arts play in understanding our world. Rimon is an initiative of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation. The Artists Salon Series is funded in part by the United Jewish Fund and Council of Greater St. Paul.
 
Theater during the Holocaust: Parable or Diversion?
November 15, 2009 | 1 p.m.

The opening salon features a dialogue with Ela Weissberger, who performed in the original production of the children’s opera “Brundibar” at the Terezin concentration camp, and the Guthrie’s senior dramaturg Michael Lupu. This event poses th e question, can theater make a difference for its makers, players, or audience in a place like Terezin?

Produced in collaboration with the Twin Cities Jewish Book Fair and presented at the St. Paul Jewish Community Center, 1375 St. Paul Ave., St. Paul.

Constructing Identity: Exploring Ethnic and Racial Stereotypes through Visual Art
January 24, 2010 | 2 p.m.

Minnesota-based Jewish artist Shana Kaplow and African-American artist Tanaegh Haddad compare notes on the complicated and sometimes humorous ways in which identity is visually presented.

Co-hosted by and presented at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts, 1011 Washington Ave. S., Minneapolis.

The Art of Shtick: Ari Hoptman Presents
February 28, 2010 | 7 p.m.

Versatile humorist, actor, and playwright Ari Hoptman delivers his wry brand of shtick. The salon is presented in association with the Minneapolis Jewish Humor Festival.

Co-sponsored and presented at the Sabes Jewish Community Center,4330 S. Cedar Lake Rd., Minneapolis.

On the Road: Urban Jews in Rural Places
May 9, 2010 | Time TBD

The series concludes with singer/songwriter Elisa Korenne, who has collected fascinating stories of transplanted Jews living in the center of the country with not a big city in sight and has crafted poignant, always entertaining songs out of their lives.
